“Turn Around“. Forrest Miller, J. Andrew World, and Conan Neutron are joined by Marina Dove, Kristina Oakes, and Erica Strout for a gender balanced panel on our second French historical drama this month “Portrait of a Lady on Fire.” They delve into the lack of score in the film, how women contribute to social reproduction, how George Washington died, and weather or not this is a gothic horror.
Deeply immersive and absolutely stunning. Almost every scene feels like a painting. This film is both the slowest burn and the deepest fire. The usage of color in this is exquisite. A taut and well written script, excellent performances and a story that manages to be almost entirely female, yet still have the crushing weight of patriarchy at all points.
